A popular vacation destination, it’s known for its glacial ribbon lakes, rugged fell mountains and historic literary associations. Market towns such as Kendal, Ambleside and Keswick on scenic Derwentwater are bases for exploring the area and home to traditional inns, galleries of local art and outdoor equipment shops.

The car park (municipal) is a 2-minute brisk walk away and access to public transport (bus) is around the corner on Main Street.
Parking on the Main and Station Str is a free 1-hour disc display. The car park is £1 overnight from 7 pm to 7 am, and £4.70 for 10 hours. Learn more

During your Stay

The apartment is located above our Better Hearing Clinic. We have a receptionist available on weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm. We will provide you with our contact phone numbers when you arrive. We live close by and enjoy a hike as we will be delighted to share our local routes with you.


Cockermouth is well known locally for its large proportion of high-quality, small and friendly independent shops. The main shopping area is comprised of Main Street, Market Place and Station Street. There are well-stocked local butchers, bakers, greengrocers and a greengrocer on Station Street.  There is also a wide selection of interesting antique and gift shops, the  ‘New Book Shop’, and numerous good cafes, restaurants, inns and bars. Wordsworth House and Garden: Explore the birthplace of renowned poet William Wordsworth at this National Trust-owned property.

Cockermouth Castle: Discover the ruins of Cockermouth Castle, privately owned but occasionally open to the public, especially during the Cockermouth Festival in July.

Roman Fort of Derventio (Papcastle): Visit the site of the Roman fort, located about a mile from Cockermouth. This significant archaeological site showcases the history of the area.

Cockermouth Town Trail: Immerse yourself in the town’s history with this fascinating walk, guided by numbered plaques created by the children of Cockermouth School. Pick up a leaflet describing the trail from the Tourist Information Centre.

Castlerigg Stone Circle: Explore this ancient stone circle, one of the most famous and visually impressive prehistoric monuments in the region.

Jennings Brewery: Discover the brewing heritage of Cockermouth with a visit to Jennings Brewery. Although tours are no longer available, you can still learn about traditional beer brewing.

Cockermouth Golf Club: If you are visiting Cumbria don’t miss the chance to play the 18 hole James Braid designed Cockermouth golf course at Embleton.

Lake District Ski Club: If you’re up for an adventure, visit the Lake District Ski Club on Raise, offering skiing experiences in the stunning Lake District National Park.
